Detailed Information

Likani Church of Holy Virgin – The remains of the Church of Holy Virgin, according to architectural construction, are dated by VII – IX centuries. The church is located in the Likani cemetery. The main part of the chapel was the nave crowned with an apse. Later, in the XVI century, a bell tower was built that covered almost the whole western wall. On the left post of it there is an inscription stating that the bell tower was built by the Feudal Lord of Borjomi Gorge Qishvard Avalishvili and his spouse Tamar – the daughter of the King of Kartli Luarsab I.

There also used to be another inscription on the eastern wall of the church dated by the first part of XVII century. It informed that Givi Avalishvili and his spouse Princess Sophio restored the altar of the church.

In the Medieval Ages there was a monastery around the Church of Holy Virgin.
